Virgin bead is new, unrecycled expanded polystyrene in a uniform 4–6 mm sphere. Nothing mixed, nothing crushed.
Because the beads are round they flow evenly and settle into a smoother, softer sit. They also carry more static than regrind, so take the pour slowly.
Each 250 L sack weighs about 4 kg. Sold by the sack or by the kilogram. Customers often choose virgin beads for specialised applications such as camera and rifle resting bags, where a uniform bead is preferred.
Virgin beads can also be used as planter fill, although this is a less common application.
